The Kano state police command has arrested one Itakpom Wadda from Edo state for buying children for N20, 000 in the state. According to reports, the suspect was arrested after she bought a child from a prostitute that recently welcomed a baby in the Sabon Gari area of the state. The police got a tip-off about the transaction and she was immediately arrested. When she was interrogated, she said she bought the baby for a couple in Port Harcourt, Rivers state who were in need of a child. The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, held a press conference in Washington D.C yesterday and spoke about World Bank activities in Africa. Officers of the Nigeria Police-Osun State command, have arrested one pastor Timothy Abiola for allegedly killing his fellow clergyman, Pastor Bamiji Ilori. The incident which occurred recently at Ikire, Irewole LGA of Osun State, was disclosed to press men on Sunday by the state Police Commissioner, Mr Fimihan Adeoye. According to Folasade Odoro, Police spokesperson; Pastor Timothy’s reason for killing his friend and fellow clergy with a gun has not yet been ascertained. He stated that a relative of the deceased, Adedeji Ajao, had over the weekend reported to the police that his uncle, Ilori had been shot dead by his friend, Timothy, who is also a pastor. Vincent who was a Senior lecturer at the Ken-Saro Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori, was driving with one of his students, Miss Priye when the gunmen attacked and opened fire on his car. Medical students to spend 11 years in University henceforth - NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced that students studying Medicine and Surgery in Nigerian universities will spend 11 years before getting an MBBS degree. The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie made the declaration in a lecture delivered at the maiden inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo State. In a lecture titled ‘Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges‘, Okojie, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, said increasing the study time was essential to ensure medical students are well prepared for the psychological demands of the game. He said medical students will spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years. A Nigerian man yesterday, March 6, appeared before Dubai Criminal Court after being arrested with more than a kilogram of cocaine wrapped around his waist. The 30-year-old Nigerian, a transit passenger was arrested in Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport on December 19 last year. He was charged with attempting to carry 50 capsules of cocaine through Dubai to Nigeria. Prosecutors said a police officer suspected the man and asked for his passport. "When I asked him for an identification document, he became tense, therefore I requested him to accompany me to the inspection room," said policeman A H, 60. He said the Nigerian refused to take off his clothes in the inspection room. "The area around his waist was bloated, but he refused to uncover it," said A H. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today March 7, arraigned one Bolaji Quadri (aka Philip Coffert) before honorable Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court on a 6-count charge of forgery and obtaining money under false pretence. The defendant allegedly duped one Raedeena Collins of the sum of $1000 by falsely claiming to be on Phillips Coffert. Mile 12 fracas: Lagos Assembly calls for relocation of market

Following the crisis in the Mile 12-Ketu area of Lagos State last week, the State House of Assembly has called on the state government to consider a relocation of the Mile 12 market. Reacting to the crisis that occurred in the market last week, where some people lost their lives and properties destroyed, the House said, under matter of urgent public importance moved by the lawmaker representing Oshodi Isolo Constituency II, Hon. Jude Idimogu that the incident was unfortunate and should be avoided.   The Assembly consequently called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to relocate Mile 12 and Owode Onirin Markets to another location after conducting necessary feasibility studies and when accompanying infrastructures must have been provided.   While commiserating with the family of those, who lost their lives in the incident, the House condemned the killings and the attitude of soldiers stationed at the market, but who could not prevent the crisis. ...
